Detroit Nation Discover the D Trip - October 14th - October 16th

Come meet the people transforming Detroit, and see the growth and innovation in the town that the New York Times is calling "The New Tribeca" and that Forbes is featuring among the best cities to do business.

Join Detroit Nation for our first "Discover the D" trip. Our trip is for the entire Detroit Nation community. You don't have to be from out of town to come Downtown.

 

Weekend Itinerary:

Friday, October 14

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Meet at Inside Detroit

  • Register at Inside Detroit, and enjoy drinks and appetizers
  • Visit Quicken Loans headquarters and hear about how one company is changing the face of Downtown
  • See a sneak preview of  "Reimagining Detroit: Opportunities for Redefining an American City" based on the book by John Gallagher and talk with Carrie LeZotte, Producer

Saturday, October 15

9:00 am - 8:00 pm

Meet at the Fisher Building

  • Panel discussion with Detroit Do-ers: Making Things Happen in Detroit, including
    • Marshalle Montgomery (Moderator), Trinity Film Coalition & New Detroit
    • Nichole Christian, Declare Detroit
    • Justin Jacobs, Come Play Detroit
    • Francis Grunow, Activist and Founder of Detroit Synergy
  • Tour Eastern Market
  • Visit artists at the Russell Industrial Center
  • Lunch with Detroit Revitalization Fellows at Traffic Jam
  • See the inside story on the city on a bus tour with Inside Detroit, including:
    • The Heidelberg Project
    • The area where the race riots broke out
    • Detroit's new urban farms
  • Tour Hostel Detroit, Detroit's first hostel accomodations
  • Meet the guys who helped fund the Robocop statue at Imagination Station
  • Eat dinner and re-cap the day with fellow attendees

Sunday, October 16

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Meet at the Wayne State University Undergraduate Library Community Room

  • Keynote speaker and moderator: Steve Henderson, Opinion Editor at the Detroit Free Press
  • Panel discussion with Detroit Nation's partners:
    • New Detroit
    • Blackstone Launchpad at Wayne State 
    • Repair the World
  • Workshop - How can the broader Detroit community get involved in the city's revitalization?

Schedule is subject to change. Check back for updates.

Cost per person for the full program is $100 before September 30th and $140 after October 7th. Cost includes all tours and speakers, appetizers and wine on Friday evening, lunch and dinner on Saturday and continental breakfast on Sunday.

Attendees can also elect to to attend a portion of the program. After October 7th, Friday night with Carrie LeZotte through Sunday lunch at Green Garage is $85. Saturday afternoon city tour, dinner  plus the Sunday workshop and continental breakfast is $80. For $120, we are also offering a "Tigers Game Special" in anticipation of a potential Tiger's Game 6 against the Rangers. The price covers the full weekend minus Saturday night. We promise to shout out the scores of the Michigan/Michigan State game on Saturday afternoon, too.
